Flinders’ locals are invited to join a renewable energy and economic development forum in Hughenden on 30 May.
This free event will bring together community, renewable energy developers, and representatives from government and the agriculture sectors.
Cr Kate Peddle, Mayor, Flinders Shire Council, stated the importance of prioritising community in the conversation around the region’s economic growth and potential.
“Renewables are becoming part of the very fabric of Flinders’ economy, alongside our all-important primary producers,” Cr Peddle said.
“This is important as greater diversity in economic development opportunities will be vital to future proof our community.
“However, it will be important for Agriculture, energy generation and transmission to all work together to ensure the benefits from a strong regional economy flow into the community.
“It is essential that our communities define what this future looks like and the legacy it will leave for generations to come.”
Through direct conversations with energy developers and industry bodies, as well as interactive presentations from experts across the renewables, agriculture, and community sectors, forum participants will be able to engage in meaningful discussions about renewable energy projects in the Flinders region.
Katie-Anne Mulder, Chief Executive Officer, Queensland Renewable Energy Council said the forum allows industry to have early, open and honest discussions with community.
“It is great to bring everyone together in one place to hear about renewables in the region – what opportunities and challenges development presents, and to start the discussion of what it’s going to mean for the region,” Ms Mulder said.
“Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the challenges and potential of large-scale renewable energy projects in the region.”
Building on the resounding success of the first three forums held in the Western Downs, Isaac and Maranoa regions over the past year, this fourth forum will take place at the Diggers Entertainment Centre in Hughenden.
Warwick Squire, Chief Executive Officer, Coexistence Queensland, said the forums help equip landholders with the tools they need to work with an energy company.
“It’s vital for all parties to have access to factual, reliable information as we navigate the opportunities and impacts of renewable energy development in the region,” Mr Squire said.
“The real benefit is ensuring landholders and companies can hear first-hand from one another; landholders learning what to expect in the development process, and industry understanding what they can do to help along that journey.”
The Queensland Community Renewables Forums are a partnership between the state’s only renewable peak industry body Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC), and the independent statutory body Coexistence Queensland.
