The Western Downs community is invited to a forum in Miles next month to learn more about large-scale renewable energy development and what this nation-building energy transition means for the region.
The forum on 10 July, part of a series of free events planned for regional Queensland, will feature information booths, presentations and question and answer sessions with leading figures in the renewable energy and agriculture industries, and government.
The Queensland Community Renewables Forums are a partnership between the Queensland Government, Queensland renewable energy peak body Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC) and the independent statutory body Coexistence Queensland (formerly GasFields Commission Queensland).
Community members are encouraged to register for the Miles event at the website queenslandrenewables.org.au.
QREC Chief Executive Katie-Anne Mulder said the forum would help provide a shared understanding of the interests of all stakeholders involved in the industry’s development.
She said the renewable energy sector and the State Government were committed to working with agriculture, local governments and the environmental sector to ensure a balanced approach to sustainable energy development.
“Queensland aims to be a leader in the responsible development of sustainable, reliable and cost-effective energy as part of the transition to renewables,” Ms Mulder said.
“Starting in Miles on 10 July, the renewable energy industry, communities and government are coming together in regional forums to have conversations about what this nation-building energy transition means for local areas.
“Queensland Community Renewable Forums will provide an opportunity for a shared understanding of the decades-long benefits ahead for communities as well as the ways in which impacts will be managed.”
Coexistence Queensland Chief Executive Warwick Squire said the event would enable information to be shared and questions answered to help build a common understanding of the interests of all stakeholders.
“The energy transition needs to work for all Queenslanders,” Mr Squire said. “To achieve that, the needs of communities, First Nations people, agricultural producers and the renewable energy industry need to be balanced and this forum will help to achieve the common understanding required.”
