Community members from the Maranoa region are invited to join renewable energy industry leaders and experts for an in-depth discussion at the Queensland Community Renewables Forum in Roma on Tuesday, 1 April 2025.
This free event, supported by the Maranoa Regional Council, will feature presentations, information booths, and Q&A sessions with leaders from renewables, agriculture, government, and academic sectors. The Roma forum is the third in a series of events held across Queensland, designed to provide an early opportunity for locals to hear about upcoming developments and build a shared understanding of the benefits from these projects, as well as the ways in which impacts will be managed.
Maranoa Regional Council Mayor Wendy Taylor said the forum provided an opportunity for the community to learn more about the renewables sector.
“The renewable energy sector is expanding in our region and it’s important that Maranoa residents have the opportunity to engage early and understand how these projects may affect them,” Cr Taylor said.
“This forum provides an important opportunity for residents to be informed, ask questions and share their views early in the process.”
With the assistance of a grant from the Queensland Government, the Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC), and Coexistence Queensland are working together to deliver these forums, offering important insights into the renewable energy transition and its long-term benefits for local communities and the state as a whole.
Katie-Anne Mulder, CEO of QREC, explained that the forum is a key opportunity for locals to understand how renewable energy projects will shape their community’s future.
“We are excited to bring together locals, famers, landholders, and industry leaders to discuss the future of renewable energy in Queensland.”
“Renewable energy projects can bring real benefits to local areas, but it’s essential that these projects align with community values,” she said.
Warwick Squire, CEO of Coexistence Queensland, emphasised the importance of ensuring that community interests are heard and addressed in renewable energy development.
“This forum provides an opportunity for open dialogue, allowing residents to ask questions and gain a better understanding of how these projects can support local priorities, from agriculture to sustainability,” Mr Squire said.
